Marilyn (Mitzi) Ramona Hoagland (Kmetz), age 95, of Burnsville, MN, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2025, at Valley Ridge Retirement Community. The family would like to express sincere thanks to Accent Hospice and the memory care staff and Valley Ridge throughout her final days.
Marilyn was born in Minneapolis to George and Myrtle Kmetz on April 10, 1930. She graduated from South High School in 1948. Marilyn was a business owner (Southside Business Service and Bay Business Service) before working in record keeping and banking.
Marilyn had many interests—golfing, bowling (high game—279!), cooking, baking (several blue ribbons!), guitar playing and singing. More recently, she played competitive racquetball for many years and won state and national titles.
Marilyn loved her children and grandchildren! She joyfully assisted (on a full-time and part-time basis) with Melody and Jared’s upbringing and was “over the moon” excited when great-grandchildren came along!
Marilyn received Jesus as her Lord and Savior in March 1980 at Christian Life Church with Pastor Ken Benson residing. Her love for Christ was a driving force the rest of her long life! It has been said that “Marilyn never met a person that she didn’t try to convert!” She also participated in missionary work for several years, traveling with Homes for the Homeless to build houses for families in Reynosa, Mexico.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister LaVonne Bittner and brother Duaine Kmetz.
Her surviving family consists of her husband of 64 years, Jerry, sons Tim Olund and Gary Hoagland (Michelle), daughter Taryn Hutchins (John), grandchildren Jeremy Mulvey, Melody Yost (Tristian), Jared Hoagland (Nicole) and great-grandchildren Averi, Jonathan and Joshua.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Marilyn’s church family at Stonebridge Church and her neighborhood community at Valley Ridge.
The funeral service will be held at Stonebridge Church, 1301 County Road 42 E, Burnsville, MN, on November 3, 2025. Meet and greet will start at 10 a.m. and the service at 11 a.m. (with lunch following in the community room at the church).
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Marilyn’s name to Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge, 740 East 24th Street, Minneapolis, MN, 55404.
