Margaret "Marge" Hovgaard, age 86 of Hastings, died peacefully Saturday Morning, March 12, 2016 at Regina Medical Center, Hastings following an extended illness. Margaret Rose, the daughter of Marcus and Kathryn (Girgen) Kieffer, was born on January 18, 1930 in Oakes, North Dakota. Marge was later married to Emil Hovgaard on August 26, 1950 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Hastings. She was a longtime employee of Emilys Bakery in Hastings and enjoyed bowling, playing bingo, traveling and spending time with family. Marge will always be remembered for being a spit-fire and a stinker. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Emil in 1984; her children, Linda Mann in 1999 and Michael in 2013 and her siblings, Walter, Leona, Dorothy, Victor, Ambrose and Fritz. Marge is survived by her daughter, Sharon (John) Mangan of Eagan; her daughter-in-law, Cindy Hovgaard of Lake City; her grandchildren, Abra Hovgaard (Holly Hanson), Jessica Hudson, Tyler Mangan and Alex Mangan; her great granddaughter, Felicity Hudson; her siblings, Allen (Mary) Kieffer and Nyla Rothove; and by many other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, March 17, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 West Fifteenth Street, Hastings, with Father David Hennen officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the Mass. In lieu of flowers, Marges family request memorials be directed to CurePSP (www.psp.org) in her memory.
