M. Wayne Carlson

Wayne Carlson, age 82 of Hastings, passed away on Friday morning, November 23, 2018, in Hastings. Melvin Wayne, the son of Alvin and Ethel (Minkler) Carlson, was born on the family farm in Newark, SD on January 2, 1936. Growing up on the family farm, Wayne enjoyed farming, playing various sports and playing the guitar. He was united in marriage on March 5, 1969 to his love Judy. Wayne was a jack of all trades, if there was something that needed to be fixed, he would fix it. Following retirement, he enjoyed working on and operating his ham radio, listening to country music, watching the Minnesota sports teams, spending time with all his family, and traveling. He is preceded in death by, his wife, Judy; parents; son, Dirk Carlson; daughter, Debra Schulz; step-son, Darren; sisters, Jean and Joyce; and brother, Vic. Wayne is survived by, daughter, Laura (Tom Peterson) Carlson; step-children, Rachelle Schultz, Janette Emerson, and Sherri (Randy) Zitur; grandchildren, Angela, Jeri, Sarah, and Isabelle; 8 great-grandchildren; brother, Bob (Janice) Carlson; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 1, 2018, at the River of Life Church in Hastings, with Pastor Steve Schoenwald officiating. Interment at Lakeside Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday at church. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the American Red Cross or the American Lung Association. Arrangements are being completed by Caturia, Smidt Starkson Funeral Home Crematory of Hastings.
