Lu K. Nelson

Lu Nelson, age 93 of Hastings died March 22, 2014 at the Ruth Home, surrounded by her family, in Hastings, MN. Lu was born March 13, 1921 in Sargent, MN to Arthur and Esther (Schwartz) Peterson. She was raised in Austin, MN where she attended school and graduated from Austin Senior High School. She married Warren Alden Nelson on June 24, 1950 at the Methodist Church in Austin, MN. They lived in St. Paul at the time. They moved to Aberdeen, SD in 1954 and then to Hastings, MN in 1966. She was employed in retail from the time she graduated high school until she began working at Cooper Elementary School in 1966. Lu worked at Cooper Elementary School (District 200) for 25 years. She also loved playing cards, cooking and baking. She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings Harriet (Sherman) Eckhardt, Wallace (Kay Betty) Peterson, James (Sue) Peterson and a great grandson Lawson Charles Strand. Lu is survived by her loving husband Warren; two sons Bill (Sandy) Nelson of Inver Grove Heights and Tom (Shawna) Nelson of Hastings; four grandchildren Ali (Ken) Nelson-Strand of Duluth, Becky Nelson and Andrew Nelson both of Inver Grove Heights and Axi Nelson of West Row, England; great grandson Brayden Strand of Duluth. Memorial Service, officiated by the Rev. Dr. April Davis-Campbell, will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, 201 East Seventh St., Hastings. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren and great grandchild. Memorials preferred.
