Lorraine M. Peine, age 90 of Vermillion, passed away peacefully following an extended illness on Saturday morning, May 23, 2026.
Lorraine Mary, the daughter of Christ and Rose (Krystocek) Werner, was born and raised in Hampton, Minnesota. Lorraine attended Bethlehem Academy (BA) in Faribault and graduated with the class of 1953. On June 2, 1956, she was united in marriage to Ervin P. Peine at St. Mathias Catholic Church in Hampton. Together, they raised six children, successfully founded and ran multiple businesses, and were blessed to spend and enjoy countless memories with family and friends during their fifty-four years of marriage. Ervin later passed away on September 23, 2010.
Outside of being the matriarch of Peine Plumbing & Heating, Lorraine was a co-owner of The Gardner House in Hastings for many years. She and Ervin loved spending summers at their lake home on Marion Lake near Perham and winters in Tucson, Arizona, where they were fortunate to create a lifetime of memories with family and friends at both locations. In her free time, Lorraine enjoyed painting, sewing, and as we all know, never missed the chance to watch (and re-watch) anything on the Hallmark Channel. She was a longtime member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Vermillion where she remained active in any way that she could. Most of all, Lorraine truly cherished her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and was always grateful for the time spent with them.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ervin; and by her sons-in-law, Bruce Simon and Frank Maroni.
Lorraine is survived by her children, Wayne (Nancy) Peine, Karen Simon, Mark (Julie) Peine, Denise Maroni, Al (Nola) Peine, and Janeen (Chad) Gifferson; grandchildren, Alison (Marty) Howard, Connor (Shelby Klotz) Peine, Adam (Viet) Simon, Taylor (Adam) Fowler, Jena (Mike) Bjertness, Amanda (Kyle) Rasmussen, Frankie Maroni, Madison Maroni, Andrew Peine, Carly Giffersen, and Quintin Gifferson; great grandchildren, Ella, Luke, Ivy, Titus, Carson, Hayden, Mazie, Henry, Eleanor, Ruth, Archie, and one more due in November; brother, Jerry (Marce) Werner; and by countless other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Vermillion, with Father Michael Tix officiating. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery.
Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., and to a reception immediately following the burial, at the church on Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. John the Baptist Catholic School and Church in memory of Lorraine.
Lorraine’s family would like to extend a special thank you to her caregivers, Liz Nelson and the late Ginny Johnston for the wonderful care that was given to Lorraine. Your countless deeds didn’t go unnoticed, and our family is grateful for that.
Arrangements are being completed by Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings.
