Lois M. Simacek

Lois M. Simacek, age 84 of Hastings, died peacefully following an extended illness on Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at the University of Minnesota Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis. Lois Mae, the daughter of Arthur and June (Goldsmith) Davis, was born on May 4, 1934, in St. Peter, Minnesota. Following her graduation from Cleveland High School with the class of 1952, Lois continued her education in private business school at Mankato Business College. While in High School, Lois attended Minnesota Girls State during her Junior and Senior years. On December 26, 1955, Lois was united in marriage to Milo "Mike" Simacek in Montgomery, Minnesota. They lived in Wabasso for a short while before moving to Hastings where Miketaught Industrial Arts. Lois worked for the Hastings Gazette, as an office manager at Midland Beverage, and later retired as a secretary from the Hastings Public Schools in special services. Lois was a dedicated member of the Hastings community. She and Mike volunteered countless hours at Red Cross chapters and the Jaycees for many years. Lois was a dedicated member of Resurrection United Methodist Church in Hastings, and was the President of Hastings Mrs. Jaycees, and the Secretary of the State Mrs. Jaycees in past years. Lois loved the holidays, especially Christmas with all the decorations, sugar cookies from her grandmas recipe, and decorating early in the season to enjoy Christmas as long as possible. She also loved photography, playing the piano, making porcelain dolls, and was always sure to send cards to family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mike on June 29, 2012; grandson, David Matthias (Matt) Simacek II; and by her great-grandson, Liam. Lois is survived by her children: Michele (Brad) Lein, Mark (Julie) Simacek, David (Tracy) Simacek, and Scott (Keri) Simacek; eleven grandchildren, Christina, Michael, David, Daniel, Thomas, and Emily Lein, Jack and Charlee Simacek, Zachary and Alexandra Simacek, and Jenna Simacek; three great-grandchildren, Benjamin, William, and Cora; siblings, Marilyn Kruger, Julie Peterson, Nelson Davis, and Arthur Davis Jr.; brother-in-law, Fritz Simacek; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at Resurrection United Methodist Church in Hastings, with Reverend Dr. Christopher Kneen officiating. Private family interment will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Visitation will be held 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2018, and will continue from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning all at Resurrection United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be designated to Resurrection United Methodist Church, University of Minnesota Gastroenterology Department, or to the donors choice in memory of Lois.Arrangements are being completed by Caturia, Smidt Starkson Funeral Home Crematory of Hastings.
