Leonard C. Rother

Leonard Charles �Shorty� Rother, age 84, of Hastings, died peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family on February 6, 2009. Leonard was born December 6, 1924 in New Trier, son of Edward and Cecelia (Schaffer) Rother. He married Elizabeth A. Otto on November 10, 1956 at St. Mary�s Catholic Church in New Trier. He had worked for the S. T. Kimmes Construction Co. as a welder and heavy equipment mechanic for many years and finished his long career with Austin P. Keller Construction Co., retiring at the age of 65. Shorty loved providing for and spending time with his wife and children. He also enjoyed time with his many friends and family members. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Cecelia; brothers Donald, James, and Edward; and brother-in-law Isadore Bauer. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth A. �Betty�; children Sandy (Paul) Karnick, Alan Rother, all of Hastings, Arlene (Dale) Stein of Cannon Falls, Jan (Doug) Larson and Lynn Rother all of Inver Grove Heights; his grandchildren Jacob, Brandon, Aaron and Elizabeth Karnick; Sylia and Anna Stein; Norah and Ellah Larson; siblings Lois Bauer of Miesville, Raynard (Mary Ann) Rother of Welch, Charles (Marilyn) Rother and LeRoy (Kathy) Rother all of Hastings, Marlene (Larry) O�Neill of Byron, MN, Sharon Tornes of Appleton, WI and sister-in-law Mary Rother of Hastings. The Funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. James Perkl will be held at 10:00am February 10, 2009 at the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035Fifteenth St. West in Hastings. The visitation will be held at the church, west entrance from 4-8pm Monday and also 1 hourprior to the Tuesday service. Interment will follow in St. Mary�s Cemetery, New Trier. The pallbearers are Paul, Jacob, and Brandon Karnick, Dale and Sylia Stein, and Doug Larson; honorary pallbearers are Lois Bauer, Raynard, Charles, and Gordon Rother, Leo, Nick, and Jim Otto, Henry Peine, and Paul Kane. .
