Leona Schommer Kimmes, age 94, of Hastings, died peacefully on Sunday, July 26, 2015 at Prescott Nursing and Rehab Center in Prescott, Wisconsin.Leona Regina, the daughter of John and Clara (Kummer) Rotty, was born on October 10, 1920 in Hastings. She attended Hastings High School and graduated with the class of 1939. Leona was united in marriage to Robert Schommer on November 23, 1944 in Hastings and were blessed with five children, Claire, John, Susan, Thomas and Joseph. Leona and Bob owned Bobs Place Tavern Resort near Prescott for almost forty years. Following the death of Bob, she married S.T. Kimmes. Leona loved to paint watercolors, wrote childrens stories, enjoyed basket weaving and also loved to travel. She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands; 3 siblings Evarist Rotty,Al Rotty and Kathryn Conzemius; and daughter in law Dawn Perrone.Leona is survived by her children, Claire (Eric) Gilbertson of Montpelier, VT, John (Sharon Carroll) Schommer of Hastings, Susan (Daniel) Jensen of Stevensville, VA, Thomas (Gayle) Schommer of Hastings and Joseph Schommer of Chisago City, MN; her grandchildren, Marc, Andrew and Matthew Gilbertson, Thomas, Michelle and Katie Schommer, Jill and Greg Tauscher and BreAnne Schommer-Martinson; her fourteen great-grandchildren; her two brothers, Eugene "Jim" (Shirley) Rotty and Clarence Rotty, both of Hastings; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 31, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 West Fifteen St., Hastings, with Father David Hennen officiating. Interment will be held at the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the Mass Friday morning at church.
