Leo M. Conzemius Jr. passed away peacefully on March 15, 2026, at the age of 90, with his family by his side.
Leo was born July 9, 1935, in Hastings MN, to Leo Conzemius Sr. and Sophie (Vassar) Conzemius. He grew up working on the family farm. He took his farm work seriously and won several awards for contour plowing. He attended Hastings High School where he participated in choir, Future Farmers of America, and wrestling. He enjoyed playing the drums. After High School, he continued working on the farm. He eventually bought his first truck, which he used to haul pea vines. This was the start of his fleet, growing one semi-truck at a time. His trucking business took him briefly to South Dakota. He returned to Hastings and established Conzemius Companies, his lifelong trucking business. .
In 1956 Leo married Sandra Rosch, with whom he had his first child. Following Sandra’s death, he married Helene Kremer, and they had four children. Leo enjoyed traveling with his family. They took many cross-country trips heading west and south. Disneyland, Disney World, and the ocean were favorite destinations.
He married Germaine Luxvold in 1993, and they enjoyed traveling in Leo’s motor home. They were members of the Family Motor Coach Association where Leo sat on the governing board. They attended many Motor Coach conventions and made lifelong friends during their travels. One of Leo’s favorite destinations was Branson, MO.
In his later years Leo would sit in his yard and enjoy the view of the farmland, feeling he no longer needed to travel because everything he appreciated was in his own backyard.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Sophie, sister Virginia Trettel, brothers Vernon Conzemius and John Conzemius, Sandra Rosch Conzemius, 2 infant daughters, Helene Kremer Singh and infant baby Dawn.
He is survived by his wife Germaine (Geri); children Dena Conzemius, Diana (Ryan) Ludwig, Robert Conzemius, Joy Conzemius, Gail Conzemius (Thomas Lewanski); grandchildren Eric (Katie) Lewanski, Brandon Lewanski, Luke Ludwig, Ava Ludwig, Anna (Mark) Sanford, Alex Lewanski, Josh Lewanski ; great-grandchildren Grant Lewanski, Adeline Lewanski, Irena Lewanski ; sisters Ann Paulson and Gloria Hippe, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Croixdale Assisted Living-Memory Care, and Lakeview Homecare and Hospice for their thoughtful and compassionate care.
