Lawrence W. "Larry" Werner Sr.

Lawrence W. "Larry" Werner Sr., age 90 of Hastings, died peacefully following a brief illness on Monday morning, January 13, 2020, at Woodwinds Hospital in Woodbury. Lawrence William Werner Sr., the son of William and Margaret (Thurmes) Werner, was born on April 24, 1929, in Vermillion Township, Dakota County. On June 7, 1950, Larry was united in marriage to Lorraine M. Freiermuth at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Trier. They were blessed with ten children, sixty-eight years of marriage, and many memories prior to her passing on October 22, 2018. Larry was a longtime farmer, superintendent for Graus Construction, and also owned and operated Werner Auction Service. He was proud of his accomplishment of graduating from World Wide College of Auctioneering in 1984, and knew to how run a very organized sale. Larry was a lifetime member of both the Minnesota State Auctioneers Association and AFL-CIO Carpenters and Joiners of America Local 87 in St. Paul. Outside of work, he enjoyed vegetable gardening, tending to his yard, and watching the Twins and Minnesota Vikings, even up until their last game. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Anthony Werner, Arnold Werner, Leonard Werner, and Ernest Werner; sisters, Lenora Ries, Florence Zeien Crapps, Rosella Bauer, Theresa Loesch, and Martha Birk; wife, Lorraine on October 22, 2018; and by his children, Joseph "Joe" Werner on November 2, 2019, Lawrence "Larry" Werner Jr. on December 4, 2017, and Judith Werner on July 4, 2013. Larry is survived by his children, Darlene (Duane) Lampman, Pat (Bob) Huneke, Cindy Freiermuth, George Werner, Roy (Barb) Werner, Mary (Jeff) Kahl, and Greg (Victoria) Werner; 18 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, and 4 step great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Linda Werner; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, MaryAnn Otto, Rosalie (Gerald) Rother, Edward (Cindy) Freiermuth, Donny Freiermuth, Dorothy Brockman, Anita Freiermuth, Irma Freiermuth, and Viola Werner; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 17, 2020, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hastings, with Father Leonard Andrie officiating. Interment will be held at the parish cemetery, with a luncheon following at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings, and also from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. Friday morning at church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to American Red Cross, HealthEast Hospice, Hastings Family Service, or for Masses at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Arrangements are being completed by Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings.
