Lawrence "Larry" Wheelock

Lawrence "Larry" Wheelock, age 73 of Hastings, passed peacefully on Tuesday, February 28, 2017, surrounded by his family at United Hospital in St. Paul. Lawrence H. was born on September 18, 1943 in Westboro, Wisconsin to Robert and Irene (Goodrich) Wheelock. He graduated from Wisconsin Rapids High School with the class of 1961 and served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. Larry married Marlene "Mollie" Santy on June 29, 1974 in Pulaski, WI. He had worked for Briggs Stratton in Milwaukee, WI for 15 years and then moved to Illinois, working with mobile home rental and repair. He then spent 30 years with the Federal Government as a boiler operator, retiring in 2012. Larry was an avid Green Bay Packer backer and also enjoyed bowling and playing pool. His involvement with the Boy Scouts included helping his sons with their activities. Larry also enjoyed a good cup of coffee. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jean M. Revek and brother-in-law, Rolland Jensen. Larry is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marlene "Mollie"; son, Jeffrey and his children, Nicholas and Hannah, son, Jason (Ali) and children Cecelia and Jake, and son, Jeremy (Shanna) and children Ayden and Bailey; brother, Robert (Nancy) Wheelock and sister, Dorothy Jensen; also numerous nephews, nieces, loving in-laws, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 7:00 p.m. Saturday, March 4, 2017, at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services in Hastings, with Gordon Gathright officiating. Private family interment will be held in Wisconsin Rapids at a later date. Visitation will be held Saturday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family. Arrangements are being completed by Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services of Hastings.
