Lawrence "Larry" Hamman

Lawrence "Larry" Hamman, age 68 of Hastings, died peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, July 25, 2016 at his home following an extended illness. Lawrence Alan, the son of Melvin and Helen (Hubley) Hamman, was born on July 7, 1948, in Hastings. Following his graduation from Hastings High School with the class of 1967, Larry enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1968-1970. Prior to receiving an honorable discharge, Larry was awardedthe Bronze Star during Vietnam War. He then served 18 years in the National Guard. Larry was a longtime employee at the Post Office in Hastings, and on June 14, 1991, was united in marriage to Laurel "Laurie" Pederson in Hastings. He loved trap shooting, golfing, and was a proud Vietnam Army Veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Pamela King. Larry is survived by his wife, Laurie of Hastings; his children, Kristin (Tom Cater) Tucker of Hastings, Mike (Amy) Hamman of Ft. Collins, CO, and Scott Hamman of Hastings; his step children, Paula (Greg) Clemmons, Jim Rossing, David (Melanie) Rossing, and Michael Rossing-Kluegel; his 16 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; his siblings, Bill (Linda) Hamman, Barb (Ken) Denn, Bonnie Hanken and Scott Dehning; and by many other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services, 201 East Seventh St., Hastings, with Gordon Gathright officiating. Visitation will be held 4-8 p.m. Friday, August 5, and also for one hour prior to the service on Saturday, all at the funeral home. Interment with Honors will be held at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Assembly Area #2 on Monday, August 8, at 10:45 a.m. Pallbearers are Jim Coss, Don Hoffman, Gloria Pinke, Louie Langenfeld, Sonny Eischens and Steve Meyer. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
