Lawrence B. Pommerening

Lawrence B. Pommerening, age 89, of Hampton, passed away May 27, 2013 in the company of his family, after a short illness. He was born Nov. 17, 1923 at Long Prairie in the log house built by his grandfather. He spent his youth working on the farm. At 18, he went to California to attend Vo Tech, and learned Machinery and Tool and Dye making. He worked in the ship yards while attending school. Later, he learned the electrical trade and wired farms in So. Dakota for the REA. He met his wife Doris there and they were later married. They returned to Minnesota and bought a farm. He farmed and worked as an electrician. He is preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Helena; twin brother, Clarence; brothers, Edwin and Melvin; sister, Irene Spitzmuller; daughter in law, Wendy Pommerening . He is survived by his wife, Doris of 60 years; children, Mary (Jim) Wentz; Barbara Crist; Sharon Swanson; Gerald; Daniel; Gregory; Ronald (Dawn); Annette (Scott) Hollerude; Robert; Sara Sieben; Jessica; and Kevin (Brenda); sister, Roselyn Pommerening; 13 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday (5/31) at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mathias Catholic Church, 23325 Northfield Blvd., Hampton. A gathering will be held one hour prior to mass. Interment will be at a later date at St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Vermillion.
