Lavonne M. Iverson, age 82, of Hastings, passed away peacefully April 19, 2015, at home with her family, after a 2 year struggle with cancer. She was born in Cannon Falls on May 17, 1932 to Elmer and Iona (Edlund) Carlson. Lavonne graduated from Cannon Falls High School in the class of 1950. She attended Mankato State and Kahler School of Nursing before graduating as an LPN from Miller Nursing School in St. Paul in August 1953. During the fall she started working at the brand new Regina Hospital. She was the first lay person hired as a nurse. On September 12, 1953 Lavonne married Harold Iverson at the First English Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls. She loved that with her marriage she instantly gained over 20 nieces and nephews. She was a kind, loving and genuinely nice person who always had something positive to say. She was very active in her children’s lives, volunteering anytime she could. Lavonne loved taking part in church activities, but most of all adored her grandchildren. To Lavonne, there was nothing more important than family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; parents; and infant brother, Charles. Lavonne is survived by her children, John (Nancy) Iverson; Cheryl (Dan) Ross; Janel (Tim) Behrends; Jerry Iverson (Tricia Glynn); and Sandy (Mike) Scharr; grandchildren, Pat (Christy), and Lisa Iverson; Nick, Luke (Annie), and Jake Ross; Anna, Sam and Wyatt Behrends; James and Charlie Scharr; great grandchildren, Hayden; Sydney; Mya; Aylah; Keira; Kora; and Kenna; sister, Kathryn Goldsberry; sister in law, Marion Crane; many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service, officiated by Rev. Lloyd Menke, will be held on Thursday (4/23) at 11:00 a.m. at Our Saviour’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 400 W. 9th St., Hastings. A visitation will be held on Wed. (4/22) from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Wise Family Funeral Home, 400 Spring St., Hastings and one hour prior to the service at church. Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Interment, Cannon Falls Cemetery.
