Kim M. Truax

July 24, 1958 — December 30, 2019

Kim was a lover of life and always up for a good time, whether that meant a round of golf, rolling down the windows and cranking the tunes, or gathering family and friends together ‘just because’. She was the first person to invite other people to join in on the fun. Constantly offering comfort to others in the form of friendship, food, more food (“are you sure you’re not hungry?”) and/or a kanooper; Kim’s mantra was “the more the merrier.” Kim was an unapologetic kitchen dance-party instigator, a garden whisperer, and had an infectious smile that would brighten the room and warm your heart. Kim grew up in Hastings, MN with her three siblings, Terry, Brian and Pam (or Louie, as Kim so lovingly called her). Her parents, Jim & Bea moved the family to a hobby farm just outside of Hastings when Kim was 14. They also owned a cabin in Lake George, MN where they spent their summers water skiing, picking baby’s breath and blueberries, enjoying camp fires and the company of family and friends. Kim went to college at Mankato State University. Prior to leaving for college she met a lifetime game-changer named Rick Truax. The two of them got married in 1980 and moved to Kentucky, only to return to Hastings 3 years later and start their happily ever after. Kim was the #1 groupie for the band, The Midlife Cryslers, and was married to her favorite lead singer, Rick, for 40 wonderful years - although she playfully claimed her “soul mates” were Jackson Browne and Dan Fogelberg. Kim & Rick raised three children together: Travis (Angie), Leah (Ben) & Lindsay. She taught them how to build a life rooted in faith and God’s love. Whenever any one of the kids would say “we are so lucky”, Kim would respond promptly with, “no, you are so blessed”. She also taught them to love the sunshine and outdoors, to take great pleasure in friendships & entertaining, to always send a thank you note, and to never hesitate to dance like nobody’s watching. As an amazing stay-at-home mom, Kim was actively involved in her children’s lives and volunteered a lot while they were growing up. She loved little kids so whether it was VBS, Adventure Club or Title 1 work, she enjoyed spending her ‘extra’ time in church and in schools. She ended up working in Title 1 for some time, and loved it. Her utmost pride and joy were her three grandchildren: Sullivan “Sully”, Pippa “Pip Squeak” and Sawyer “So-So”. Spending time with them as “Grandma Kimmy” was her favorite place to be for the past 4.5 years. Kim had a life-long love of golf, music, the color red, crafts, decorating, olives, and creating beautiful outdoor spaces with her green thumb. If she wasn’t spending time with family, she was with friends. She cherished all her friends dearly and kept quite a busy calendar with the HWOH and all of the people who loved her so much in return. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 3, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Crossroads Church in Woodbury, 5900 Woodbury Drive in Woodbury. A visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the service at church. In lieu of flowers, Kim and the family request donations be made to Dr. Loggie’s PMP Research Fund in Kim’s honor via https://www.gofundme.com/f/in-loving-memory-of-kim-truax/" . Or visit GoFundMe.com and search for “Kim Marie Truax”. Kim, Rick, and family want to thank you all for your unwavering support since Kim’s diagnosis in 2013. The past seven years were filled with family, friends and so much joy. Kim wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. She came, we loved, we laughed, she left, and our world will never be the same.
