Kenneth D Lorenz

Ken Lorenz of Hastings, MN died January 17th 2019 at the University Of Minnesota Hospital in MPLS, MN. Kenneth Duane Lorenz was born April 18th, 1947 in Fergus Falls, MN to Pastor Walter and Lorraine (Pettersen) Lorenz. Ken attended Concordia College in St. Paul, MN and graduated from Mankato State University, in Mankato, MN. On December 28th, 1969, he married Ilene (Letnes) Lorenz. After graduation, Ken was accepted into Officers Training School and proudly served as an officer in the United States Air Force for 20 years. After retiring from the Air Force, Ken flew for 18 years as a commercial pilot for Northwest and Delta Airlines. He is survived by his wife, Ilene; their children, Sheila (Chris) Baldwin, Krista (Don) Ellis, and Eric (Jenny) Lorenz; and his beloved grandchildren, Kayleen, Alex, Logan, Tyler, Jacob and Samantha; in addition to his sister, Betty Gundermann, sister-in-law, Marlene Lorenz, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Al Lorenz, sister, Annette Williams, brother-in-law, Pastor Vern Gundermann, and sister-in-law, Linda Letnes Lewis. A memorial service will be held Friday, January 25th, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Hope Lutheran Church in Hastings, MN. Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 PM prior to the services. Burial will be held at Fort Snelling Cemetery in MPLS, MN at a later date. Memorials preferred to Hope Lutheran Church, Hastings, MN where Ken was an active member, The University of MN Foundation Lung Transplant and Education and Research Fund, or donor’s choice. Ken will be remembered for his strong faith, his love for his family, his helping hands, gentle smile, witty, dry sense of humor, and his impeccable woodworking skills. God bless his memory.
