Kathryn Ann Hackel

Kathryn Ann Hackel, age 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children at United Hospital in St. Paul on May 25, 2017. She was born in Aberdeen, SD on May 27, 1930 to George Raymond and Alice Rosemund Lyman. After attending business school in Minneapolis, she worked for Milwaukee Railroad, a job she enjoyed during her single years. She met and married her husband, Bob Hackel in 1955. Together they raised 7 highly spirited children. Kathryn possessed the ability to keenly observe the world around her and articulate, with sharp wit and humor, a certain truth about any situation. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Hackel, and her daughter, Mary Frances Schmitz. She is survived by her children, Jane Hackel, Maureen Martin, Kathleen Conroy, Richard Hackel, Ellen (Tim) Schmitz, and Carol (Tony) Horton, 18 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday (5/31) at 10:30 AM at The Church of St. Albert the Great, 2836 33rd Ave. S., Minneapolis with a visitation one hour prior to mass. An Irish Wake will be held on Tuesday (5/30) from 5:00 - 8:00 PM at Wise Family Funeral Home, 400 Spring St., Hastings. Interment, Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
