Kathleen "Kathy" Pohl, age 78 of Hastings, died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday morning, September 3, 2019, following a short but brave battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Kathleen Mary, the daughter of Chester and Bernice (Courtemanche) Niederkorn, was born on November 23, 1940, in Hastings. Following her graduation from Hastings High School with the class of 1958, Kathleen worked at 3M for a brief time. On December 30, 1961, she was united in marriage to James "Jim" Pohl at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Hastings, and was blessed with five children. After their children were all in school, Kathleen began working for Polka Dot Dairy and Tom Thumb until retiring after many years. She was an excellent cook, painter, crocheter, quilter, and had an amazing talent for rug hooking. Kathleen enjoyed attending baseball games, first watching Jim, then her children's, and most recently, her grandchildren's sports and activities. She and Jim enjoyed traveling to Germany, their annual Fall Bus Tours, and trips to Door County, Wisconsin. Above all, Kathleen simply loved being with her family and cherished the time they spent together. She was preceded in death by her parents; mother and father-in-law, Ernest (Lucille) Pohl; daughter, Jane Mancini; and by her twin grandchildren in infancy, Peighton and Parker Pohl. Kathy is survived by her loving husband, Jim; children, Patrick (Lisa) Pohl, Mary (Thomas) Otto, Carol Pohl, and John Pohl; six grandchildren, Jacob and Leo Otto, Jack and Michael Mancini, and Olivia and Harrison Pohl; son-in-law, Nick Mancini; brother, Michael (Margaret) Niederkorn; brothers-in-law, Robert (Jan) Pohl and Thomas (Linda) Pohl; and by many other relatives and dear friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 7, 2019, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hastings, with Father David Hennen officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Hastings, with a reception immediately following at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel.
