Katherine M. Peterson

Katherine "Kathie" Peterson, age 74, of Hastings, died peacefully on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at Regina Medical Center, Hastings. Katherine Marie, the daughter of Leonard and Myrtle (Jacobson) Ellingson, was born on April 18, 1941 in Oronoco, Minnesota. On April 8, 1967, she was united in marriage to Ronald "Rocky" Peterson. She loved spending time with children, which resulted in her opening her own daycare in which she ran for many years. Katherine and Rocky loved attending the Minnesota State Fair and would often spend the entire time camping there. She was a member of Our Saviours Ev. Lutheran Church and also a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1210 Auxiliary, both in Hastings. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters and one brother; her son, Mike; and by her grandson, Lucas. Katherine is survived by her husband, Rocky of Hastings; her children, Peggy (Brian) Mills of Northfield, John (Kathy) Peterson of River Falls, WI, Edward "Ben" (special friend, Laura) Peterson of Minneapolis, Joe (Michelle) Peterson of Hastings, Connie (Jammer) Rieger of Farmington, Amy (special friend, Tony) Chandler of Hastings, and Duey (Heather) Peterson of Hastings; her daughter-in-law, Pam (Bill) Nicoll of Hastings; her nineteen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren; her siblings, Lenora Rapp, Donny Ellingson, JoAnne Wagnon, Robert Ellingson, Arlen Ellingson, and Leonard Ellingson; her sister-in-law, Alicia Ellingson; her many daycare and neighborhood kids; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2015 at Our Saviours Ev. Lutheran Church, 400 West Ninth St., Hastings with Reverend Doug Duin officiating. Interment will be held at Lakeside Cemetery, Hastings. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services, 201 East Seventh St., Hastings, and for one hour prior to the service on Saturday morning at church. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Joshua Rieger, Cody Rieger, Logan Rieger, Tucker Rieger, Jeff Skallerup, Matthew Peterson and Marc Peterson.
