Joseph "Joe" McCoy, age 56 of Hastings, died Sunday morning, April 9, 2017, at Regina Senior Living, Transitional Care Unit of Hastings, following a recent injury. Joseph Martin, the son of Earl S. and Mary (Schnell) McCoy, was born on July 24, 1960, in Hastings. Joe attended Hastings High School and graduated with the class of 1978. He then continued his education at Beloit College and obtained a degree in Anthropology. Joe returned home and began working at Murphys Landing and the Sibley House. He then took a job with Brown County in New Ulm, later Olmsted County at Mayowood and eventually retired in July of 2016 as a Director of Transitions at the Lino Lakes Correctional Facility. Outside of working, Joe loved to deer hunt and being involved with the St. Joseph Catholic Church Parish Council as Past President and a confirmation leader. With that involvement, Joe had the opportunity to travel for World Youth Day in Germany and Australia, and cherished the opportunities associated with the church. He was preceded in death by his father, Earl S. McCoy. Joe is survived by his mother, Mary McCoy; his siblings, William McCoy, Stanley McCoy, Andrew (Martha) McCoy, Steven (Mary) McCoy, and Margaret Mary McCoy; his three nieces, Emily, Katherine, and Sarah; and by aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hastings, with Father T.J. McKenzie officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 17, 2017, at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services in Hastings, and will continue for one hour prior to Mass at church on Tuesday morning. Arrangements are being completed by Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services of Hastings.
