Joseph Ruhr passed away March 9, 2015 at the age of 96 in Thousand Oaks, California. Joe was born July 4, 1918 in Rosemount, Minnesota, son of Ferdinand and Marie (Gores) Ruhr. In 1944, Joe graduated from the University of Colorado in Boulder with a BA in Accounting and Finance. His career included banking, credit management for Union Oil Company, and accounting for a number of hospitals in the San Fernando Valley, as well as being a realtor. Music always held a special place in Joe�s heart, and he particularly enjoyed the Big Band sounds, and his association with Goebel Senior Center�s Band, �The Unforgettables�. Joe played the saxophone in the band for many years, as well as managing and planning �gigs� for the group. He had many long-term friendships from his association with the band. Joe also loved boating and fishing. He built his own cabin cruiser, which he used to fish in Lake Arrowhead, where he and his wife, Bette built and maintained a vacation home for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 48 years, Bette; daughter, Susan (Mrs. Alan) Hitt; and sister, Marcella (Mrs. Lew) Linde. Joe is survived by his daughter, Nancy Chavez; son-in-law, Alan Hitt; grandsons, Jason (Julie) and Brian (Melissa) Hitt; great grandchildren, Parker, Berkley and Henry Hitt; also by his wife Bette�s son, Randall (Susan) Kinsling and grandchildren, Todd (Ashley) Kinsling, Paige (Kinsling) Walker and great grandchildren, Addison Kinsling and Quinn Walker; his sister and brother-in-law, Rosemarie and Ben Sontag; brother-in-law, Lew Linde and many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM Friday, April 24, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 West Fifteenth Street, Hastings with visitation held one hour prior to the Mass at church. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the �Marcella Ruhr Linde Endowment�, a scholarship fund for nursing students established in memory of Joe�s sister, Marcella, c/o St. Catherine University, 2004 Randolph Avenue; Mail F-12, St. Paul, MN 55105; or the charity of your choice.
