John “Jack” Richter passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, January 2, 2026 at Regina Hospital in Hastings. He was born January 4, 1938 in Winona, MN, the beloved son of John Edward and Martha Ann Richter.
Jack grew up in Winona, attending Cotter and Winona High Schools. Following a familial call to service, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, and was honorably discharged in 1959. He married the love of his life, MaryAnn, at Incarnation Catholic Church in Minneapolis on September 9, 1961. Together they built a life rooted in faith, family, and love. He enjoyed productive managerial careers, in aviation, manufacturing and property management. Retiring in Hastings, Jack and MaryAnn enjoyed travel, friends, family, and volunteer ministries at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.
Deeply dedicated to family and an avid outdoorsman, Jack loved hunting, fishing, and camping, generously sharing his knowledge and life lesson with his children and grandchildren. He supported his children in all their endeavors-especially sports. Whether as a coach, driver or enthusiastic fan, Jack rarely missed an event. He also enjoyed bowling, dancing, cheering on the Green Bay Packers, and anything that involved a good party.
Jovial and social in any environment, Jack treated all with kindness and respect. He will always be remembered fondly, missed dearly, and his spirit will live on in those he touched in life.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, John and Martha Ann; siblings, Gene, Ron, Dan, Mary Ann Brown, and Bill. He is survived by his devoted wife, MaryAnn; sons, James (Lisa), John (Patricia Malotka), and Joseph (Sheila); grandchildren, Kirsten (Nick) Sax, John III (Lexi Fendler), Jenna (Justin) Bauer, Tricia (Jim) Merkins, Zach (Malary), and Taylor (Jordan) Burandt; eight great-grandchildren with one on the way; sister, Loretta; and many other relatives and dear friends.
A private family Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. Interment will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery in Winona at a later date.
