John Lorentz

John Nicholas Lorentz, age 84 of New Trier died Tuesday, October 21, 2014 in Rochester, MN. John was born March 30, 1930 to Nicholas and Veronica (Gores) Lorentz at the family farm near New Trier. He married Rose Mary Brockman on June 3, 1952 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Vermillion. John was a dairy farmer and then worked at Cannon Equipment from 1986-1994. John had made over 3000 rosaries and 6000 quilts during his lifetime. He was also a longtime member of the St. Nicolaus Society. He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law George J. Marthaler; brothers Donald, Clyde, Gerald and Kenneth; sisters Mary Magnusson and Viola Larson. John is survived by his wife Rose Mary; children Mary Catherine SSND, Stephen (Laurie) Lorentz, JoAnn Marthaler, Martin (Peggy) Lorentz, Joseph (Donna) Lorentz, Kathleen (David) Reuter, Virginia (Ron) Johnston, George (Theresa) Lorentz, and Paul (Judy) Lorentz; also 22 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; sisters Jean Larson and Barb Buck; sister-in-law Dolores Niesen; aunt Theresa Moes. The funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. Stan Mader will be held 10 AM Saturday, October 25 at St. Marys Catholic Church of New Trier. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held 3-7 PM Friday at the Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, 201 East Seventh Street, Hastings and one hour prior to the service at church. Pallbearers are grandsons Jeremy Reuter, Matthew Reuter, Nick Lorentz, George Marthaler, Jake Lorentz, Luke Lorentz and Adam Johnston; honorary pallbearers are Henry Peine, Norbert Hoffman, Jim Gores, Barney Ostertag and six members of the St. Nicolaus Society.
