John E. Long

John Edward Long, age 63, of Lakeville, MN, passed away peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.  He was born in Fargo, ND on June 8, 1962 to Edith Mary and Richard Gill Long. John is the second oldest of three siblings, Ann, Sarah and Chris. He grew up in Duluth and lived most of his life in Lakeville, MN.

He fell in love with Jang, becoming her loving husband and father of two active kids – Saengdao and Jacob.

John was a software engineer and manager prior to retirement. He was a person who got things done. If it was broken, he’d research the solution and get it fixed – such as winning the fight against the backyard buckthorn and replacing it with beautiful pine trees!

John loved exploring with his family and visited many countries, even as Saengdao and Jabob were infants, looking to broaden their connection with the world. He also enjoyed downhill and cross-country skiing, biking, camping, hiking, and visiting family and friends.

He was so proud of his children as they continue to build their lives based on their passions and goals. He was their biggest ally as they grew and tried new things and learned from the experiences. His goal was to ensure they were never alone with struggles and his love will continue to support and push them forward and to stay strong.

John, Jang, Saengdao, Jacob and extended family have built a life with love, caring and growth. We miss you so very much and will remember you with love forever.

A celebration of life for John will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at 4:00 PM at Starkson Family ~ Anderson Chapel, 14850 Garrett Avenue, Apple Valley, MN, with a visitation one hour prior.
