John "Jack" Franklin

John "Jack" Franklin, age 69 of Hastings, died suddenly on Sunday afternoon, November 26, 2017, at Regions Hospital in St. Paul. John Edward, the son of James and Mary (McCarthy) Franklin, was born on February 27, 1948, in Boston, Massachusetts. At a young age, Jacks family moved to Randolph, Massachusetts, where he attended and graduated from Randolph Public High School with the class of 1966. He then began the apprenticeship program at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and earned his electrician license. During that time, Jack was also part of the Massachusetts National Guard. He later worked on the construction of the Alaska oil and gas pipeline during the 1970s, and often traveled to many other jurisdictions as a Union Electrician before settling in Minnesota. Jack was active with both 292 and 110 IBEW Unions, and enjoyed spending time with his brother electricians, as well as his friends at the Eagles Club. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Susan Leach; and by his grandson, Ryan. Jack is survived by his significant other of many years, Becky Petersen of Hastings; his children, Laureen and John; his three grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and by his siblings, James, Richard, Robert, Barbara Baird, Mary Mallett, Linda Tortora, Patricia Oles, Karen Tempone, and Michael. Jack is also survived by Beckys children, John Devine and Suzie (Jeremy) Mattson; her five grandchildren, and by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Funeral services will be held 5:00 p.m. Saturday, December 2, 2017, at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services of Hastings, with Gordon Gathright officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday afternoon from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Private family interment will be held at Lakeside Cemetery in Hastings at a later date. Arrangements are being completed by Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services of Hastings.
