John "Jack" Frandrup, age 58 of Hastings, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday evening, July 3, 2018. He spent the day celebrating his birthday, and was able to take one final trip to the Steinhaus in Vermillion. Jack, the son of Gerald "Jerry" and Delores (Karnick) Frandrup, was born on July 3, 1960, in Hastings. Following his graduation from Hastings High School with the class of 1979, Jack worked for various companies in the area before beginning his longtime career with Dakota County Highway Department in 1995. Jack loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and spending time at his camper in Chetek, Wisconsin. You could always find Jack at his place, "Crabby Jacks", building, fixing, and working on just about anything. If he was in need of a certain piece of equipment or tool, Jack would have it, and if not, would build it from scratch. His talent and knowledge will never be forgotten by his family and friends. Jack also owned and operated his own lawn service and small engine repair, and had the knack to make some of the best smoked meats and pickles. He was preceded in death by his parents; many aunts and uncles; and recently by his great nephew, Joseph Sanderson on June 30, 2018. Jack is survived by his children, Lindsey Frandrup, and Weston (Liz) Frandrup; granddaughters, Kinsley and Kiah; siblings, Jerry (Brigitte) Frandrup, Helen (Joe) Raway, Jim (Dana) Frandrup, Joe (Deb) Frandrup, Jeff Frandrup, Vicki (Joe) Schweich, Missy (Dale) Beissel, Jay (Janet) Frandrup, and Jesse (Velita) Frandrup; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2018, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Vermillion, with Father Cole Kracke officiating. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Caturia, Smidt Starkson Funeral Home Crematory of Hastings, and will continue from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at church on Monday morning.
