John Furney

John William Furney, age 76 of Red Wing MN passed away peacefully at home on May 3, 2026, after a courageous 14-year battle with Lung Cancer.

John was born on October 20, 1949, in Hastings Mn to Wilbur and Lois Furney. He went to Hastings High School and spent most of his life in Hastings. He married Nancy Schwartz in 1970 and had 3 children who he referred to as “my pride and joy”. He later married his best friend Jean (Johnson) Lemmer.

John enjoyed helping friends with various handyman projects, tinkering with cars and watching movies. He was happiest having “a cold one” with friends and family.

John was preceded in death by his Step-Son Garrett Lightfoot, his parents Wilbur and Lois and his siblings Elizabeth White, Steve Furney, Tom Furney, Bobby Furney and Tim Furney.

John is survived by his wife Jean Furney, his daughters Angie (Steve) Pretasky, Shannon Furney and his son Josh (Martha) Furney. Grandchildren Zada and Justin Pretasky, Kaneesha and Dontae (Anna) Furney-Perkins, Eryn (Kalvin) Hinderscheid and Gwen Furney. Great-Grandson Tristan Mac. Siblings Teresa Felty, Jim (Norma) Furney, David (Karen) Furney. Many special Nieces and Nephews and many lifelong friends.

A Celebration of John's life will be held at his son Josh’s house (1404 3rd Street East in Hastings) on Saturday May 16th, 2026, from 1-4PM. Cremation services provided by Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel.
