Joanne K. Cobian, age 86, of Hastings, passed away August 29, 2021. Joanne was born to Harry and Margaret Penor on March 20, 1935, in Bison, South Dakota. As a young girl, she loved riding horses with her Uncle Johnny, Christmas gatherings at her grandparent’s farm, being a cheerleader, singing in the choir and playing board games like Canasta and Parcheesi. At the age of 18, Joanne was united in marriage on September 8, 1953, to the love of her life, Leslie Cobian, and together they celebrated 67 years of marriage. They were blessed with three sons and a daughter; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. They enjoyed traveling, boating, card playing and spending their winters in Arizona. Joanne enjoyed arts and crafts, playing Bridge, cooking, baking, and spending time entertaining family and friends. Preceding Joanne in death were her parents, Harry and Margaret Penor; two brothers, Chester and Dean Penor; mother and father-in-law, Frank and Regina Cobian; sisters-in-law, June Penor and Roseann Penor; son, Rick Cobian. She is survived by husband, Leslie; children, Randy (Susan) Cobian, Ron (Terri) Cobian, Renee (Tom) Lucking and daughter-in-law, Jaci Cobian. She was a beloved grandma to eight grandchildren, Vanessa, Shelby, Ryan, Rachel, Garrett, Natalie, Leslie, Jacob and two step-grandchildren, Mallory and Stephen. Her legacy also included 10 great-grandchildren, Zachary, Elaina, Joey, Davis, Nathan, Brooks, Ricki, Thomas, Piper and Banks. In addition, she will be missed dearly by her brother, Dr. Robert Penor M.D., in-laws, Eloise Penor, Shirley Hei and LaVerne Cobian; as well as close cousins, nephews, nieces and friends from far and near. Joanne shared that her greatest lesson in life was to be true to herself and respect others. Her memories will live strong in the hearts of those she loved, and her kind and caring spirit will carry on. A Celebration of Life honoring Joanne Cobian will be held on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at the Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel, 3075 Vermillion Street in Hastings.
