Joann M. Rechtzigel

JoAnn M. Rechtzigel, age 86 formerly of Rosemount, died peacefully Monday evening, November 20, 2017, at Wealshire of Bloomington. Her passing comes just two weeks after the death of her husband, Marlin. JoAnn Marie, the daughter of Alden and Frances (Doeden) Carey, was born on November 29, 1930, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. JoAnn graduated from Marshall High School in Minneapolis with the class of 1948. She continued her education at Inver Hills Community College, Metro State, the U of M, and later graduated from St. Marys in Winona with her Masters Degree. On March 7, 1953, JoAnn was united in marriage to Marlin W. Rechtzigel at Como Congregational Church in Minneapolis. JoAnn was the Director of Returning Adult Center, and also taught at Inver Hills Community College. JoAnn was extremely artistic and creative. She loved to design and sew clothes, paint, and do a variety of crafting projects. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Nancy Carey Peleaux; and recently by her husband, Marlin on November 7, 2017. JoAnn is survived by her children, Cindy (Loyd) Stroup, Susan (Ron) Otten, and Carey (Leslie) Rechtzigel; her grandchildren, Jolyn Brack, Mathias Rechtzigel, Garrit Otten, and Gretja Otten; and by many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 24, 2017, at St. Johns Lutheran Church Rich Valley, with Reverend Christopher Horton officiating. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held at church for one hour prior to the service on Friday morning. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Mayo Clinic in memory of JoAnn. Arrangements are being completed by Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services of Hastings.
