Jerol "Jake" Burr Sr.

Jerol "Jake" Burr Sr., age 71 of Hastings, died peacefully on Thursday evening, February 16, 2017, at his home in Hastings, Minnesota, following an extended illness. Jerol Frederick, son of James and Vera (McKinley) Burr, was born October 11, 1945, in Red Wing, Minnesota. Jake served in the United States Army and fought in the Vietnam War. He was later granted an honorable discharge. On March 6, 1970, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Darlene (Hamilton) Burr. They enjoyed spending many quality years together and raising their eight children. Jake was a master carpenter and hardworking roofer and sider. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years, playing the accordion and singing like Elvis, gardening and having a good time. Most of all, Jake loved his children and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Jim Burr, Betty Drenckhahn, Clarence Burr, Kenneth "Swede" Burr, Stan Burr and Vicky Glasby. Jake is survived by his wife of 46 years Darlene; his children Paul Hamilton, Gladys (Paul) Kelly, Jake Burr Jr., Sandy Burr, Sherry Burr, Stan (Shirley) Burr, Mark Burr and James (Lydia) Burr; his 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren whom he loved dearly; his siblings Sally Blair, Gladys (Paul) Odman and Denny Burr; his brother-in-law Paul Glasby; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Memorial services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, February 27, 2017, at Cornerstone Bible Church in Hastings, with Reverend James Bzoskie officiating. Military Honors conducted by the VFW Lyle Russell Post 1210 will follow the service at church. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at church. Private family interment at Lakeside Cemetery will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being completed by Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services of Hastings.
