Jeanne E. Horsch

Jeanne E. Horsch, age 88 of Hastings, died peacefully on Friday evening, January 22, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Jeanne Esther, the daughter of Gustav and Svea (Johnson) Thumann, was born on September 4, 1927 in Red Wing and attended Central High and Cadet Nursing School. Following her education, Jeanne was united in marriage to Donald "Rod" Horsch on July 16, 1949 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Hastings; Don later preceded her in death on June 19, 1996. Jeanne was a longtime Registered Nurse at the State Hospital Veterans Home in Hastings and eventually retired in 1984. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church / Elizabeth Ann Seton, American Legion Post 47 Auxiliary, Knights of Columbus and Red Cross. Jeanne was also an avid gardener and a true Raiders fan. She enjoyed traveling, dancing with Rod in their younger years, and spending time with her many grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don; and by her siblings, Dorothy, Raymond, Kenneth, Reynold and a sister in infancy. Jeanne is survived by her children, Mike (Brenda) Horsch of Duluth, Cynthia Horsch of Hartsfield, GA, Sandy (Steven) Haas of Hastings, Colleen Horsch of Hastings, Michelle Jo (Mike) Fairbanks of Red Wing, Tom Horsch of Prescott and Jim (Elaine) Horsch of Hastings; her grandchildren, Maranda (Dan) DeSanto, Christina (Brady) Schwartz, Rick Plan Jr., Corey Plan, Jim (Nikki) Slattum Jr., Brian Slattum, Nancy (Keith Andersen) Gove, Laura Haas, Peter (Rachel Montague) Schweich, Amie Fairbanks, Brad Horsch and Ryan Horsch; her great grandchildren, Jake Slattum, Matt Slattum, Kenna Herrington, Avery DeSanto and Maureen Andersen; her step grandchildren, Jacob Denn and Kaitlin Seme; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 West Fifteenth St., in Hastings, with Father T.J. McKenzieofficiating. Interment will be held in the Parish Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 to7:00 p.m. at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services, 201 East Seventh St., in Hastings, and also for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday morning at church.
