Jean M. Mattila

Jean M. Mattila (Rowan), age 60 of Hastings, passed away unexpectedly on February 1, 2018. Jean was born July 9th, 1957, in Hastings, Minnesota to Ray and Georgia (Robinson) Rowan. Shemarried Steve Mattila on January 20th, 1979. Her family grew when they welcomed their daughter Lynn, son Robert, and youngest son Jesse over the years. Jean welcomed her first grandchild Tanner into the world on New Year's Day 2007. Family was the core of everything Jean believed in. Everyone coming through her door was family. She used any excuse to host gatherings of her family and friends. Jean loved to bake and make jam. She took special pride each year in making jam for her family, friends and business associates. Her favorite time of year was the holidays. From baking caramel rolls Thanksgiving morning, holiday baking sessions with her nieces, nephews and children, to decorating her home for Christmas, Jean enjoyed every part of the holiday season. Another of Jeans passions was music. She and Steve shared their love of music with their children. Jean learned to play the bass and formed a band with Steve, Robert, and Jesse. Boomer and the Cool Cats was a hit with the coffee shops and bars locally. As the boys grew, the band evolved and was renamed The Ride Home. In addition to playing music, Jean was the office manager for their family owned business PRS Incorporated. Jean loved sharing an office with her family. She often spoke of how wonderful it was to get to see her children and grandchild nearly every single work day. Jean was preceded in death by her father, Ray Rowan. She is survived by her husband, Steve; Children, Lynn (Jennie), Robert (Kelli), Jesse; Grandson, Tanner; Mother, Georgia; Siblings, Ray (Linda), Tim (Kay), Mary (Mike), Diane (Kelly), Pat (Mary); numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends and her pugs Bruiser, Sherona and Ember. A Celebration of her life will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 8th, 2018, at Caturia, Smidt Starkson Funeral Home Crematory of Hastings, with a gathering of friends and family prior to the service starting at noon. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Hastings Family Services. Arrangements are being completed by Caturia, Smidt Starkson Funeral Home Crematory of Hastings.
