Janice Teeter, age 70, of Hastings, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025.
Janice was born on November 20, 1954, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, to Harold and Iyone (Pilon) Tilkens. She grew up in Green Bay as the fifth of eight children in a busy but loving household, where the sound of cheering fans from nearby Lambeau Field often filled the air. A proud graduate of Westside High School, Janice was a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan who carried that hometown pride wherever life took her.
Following high school, Janice joined the United States Navy and completed boot camp in Florida before being stationed in Corpus Christi, Texas. It was there she met the love of her life, Paul, in 1973 while they were serving in the same squadron. Janice worked in aviation hydraulics and took great pride in her service. The two were married in 1976 in Texas, and again in June 1977 in Green Bay for a big family celebration. In 1978, they reaffirmed their vows in Corpus Christi with a Catholic ceremony.
Janice and Paul welcomed two children, Heather and Josh, both born in San Diego. Their family later moved to New Jersey and then Virginia, where Paul retired from the Navy. During those years, Janice worked for the Veterans Administration in both states before eventually continuing her service work in Minnesota.
In 1991, the family moved to Hastings when Paul began working for Northwest Airlines. They chose Hastings because it offered the best of both worlds, close enough for Paul’s work and close enough for Janice to stay connected to her Green Bay family. She went on to work for the Federal Aviation Administration as a safety administrative assistant, where her dedication and strong work ethic shone through.
Janice will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was strong willed, kind hearted, and fiercely loyal, never afraid to speak her mind yet always ready to lend a hand. Family was her world. She loved gardening, reading, and attending her grandchildren’s activities, especially marching band competitions. She celebrated every accomplishment, big or small, and her presence made every gathering feel like home.
Janice and Paul shared many wonderful adventures together, especially on the cruises they loved to take, exploring new places and simply enjoying time together. Her family lovingly describes her as “the rock,” the one who held everyone steady. As her children said, “Mom was home.”
She is survived by her loving husband, Paul; children, Heather Caauwe, Josh (Billie Jean) Teeter, and Marjorie (Elroy III) Codding; grandchildren, Tim, Isaac, Alex, Hunter, Elliott, Sabrina, Miranda, and Elroy IV; great grandchild; siblings, Peggy (Ron) Jarvey, Donna (Pete) Johnson, Carla (Harry) McFall, Paul (Lisa) Tilkens, and Todd (Teresa) Tilkens; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jennifer Reinardy; parents, Harold and Iyone Tilkens; and brothers, Mark and Jack Tilkens.
A service celebrating Janice’s life will be planned for next summer. Please check back in the spring for updates.
Arrangements are being handled by Starkson Family Life Celebration Hastings Chapel.
