James “Jim” Marx passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, December 7, 2025. He was born on March 9, 1941, in Saint Paul to John and Isabel (Higgins) Marx, and grew up in Minneapolis and Richfield. A proud member of the De La Salle High School Class of 1959, James went on to attend Saint John’s University on a baseball scholarship.

Jim built a long and dedicated career, beginning in cement construction before transitioning to heavy equipment sales—a path that eventually took him to Arizona and California. On June 11, 1960, he married the love of his life, Therese “Terry” K. Ojile, with whom he shared 65 years of devotion, partnership, and adventure.

Jim’s greatest joy in life was his family. More than anything, he loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He often set aside his own favorite pastimes to be present for us. A true craftsman, he could build or fix anything from the ground up. He loved golfing, fishing, cheering on the Vikings and Twins, and following Gustavus Women’s Hockey. Jim and Terry enjoyed traveling together, especially on trips to Las Vegas and on cruises. Above all, Jim cherished time spent with his family. He was known for his wonderful sense of humor, unwavering loyalty, and honest, hardworking nature.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, John and Isabel; and his siblings, Phyllis (Ray) Lutz and Jack (Arleta). He is survived by his beloved wife, Terry; daughters Terri (Mike) Carroll, Lisa (Mike) Willaert, and Michelle (Bob) Kiner; grandchildren Matt Carroll, Michael (Stephanie) Carroll, Lindsey (Brett) Burgstahler, Megan (Paul) Martin, Joe Kiner, Rachel Kiner, and Alexis Kiner; nine great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will hold his memory close.

Memorials may be directed to Saint Croix Hospice or Saint Maron’s Catholic Church in Minneapolis.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 15, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel–Anderson Chapel, with visitation beginning at 9:00 AM.
