Irene Frances Serres, 89, of Miesville, surrounded by her family, passed away peacefully at her home on August 21, 2026.

She was born March 11, 1937 in Hastings to Sylvester and Leona (Latuff) King. Irene was a proud lifelong Miesville resident. One year she was even named the “Queen of Miesville”, a fitting title for someone who was so deeply rooted to her small town. Throughout the years Irene worked at Miesville Milling, Cannon Ball Express, Avon, and Wiederholts. One pride, joy, and pillar of her life was being a former owner and operator of King’s Place Bar and Grill.

On August 10, 1957, Irene married the love of her life, Leon Serres. Together, they shared 50 wonderful years of marriage. She loved doing life with him and they were rarely far apart. They built a strong and loving family who they cherished and celebrated throughout their lives. Christmas was especially meaningful to Irene and Lee and became the highlight of every year. It was a time for family, traditions, laughter, and togetherness.

Irene loved her home in Miesville. It was her and Lee’s dream house, which they filled inside and out with treasures curated from their many travels, serving as reminders of the places they had been and the life they had shared.

Irene loved to bake, garden, bowl, golf, dance, fish, and shop. She had many amazing friends throughout the years; she enjoyed swimming and playing cards with them often. She found happiness not simply in these activities, but in the laughter and memories created along the way with her family and friends.

Her faith was an important part of her life. Irene was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she was also a devoted member of the choir. Her faith and her church community were a significant part of who she was.

Irene may have been small, but she loved fiercely. She leaves behind a legacy of love, family, faith, hard work, traditions, and community. These will continue to live on through her family and all who knew her.

She is survived by her children Cindy (Steve) Schaack, Sandy (Mike) Murtaugh, Julie (Mitch) Stein, and Tammy (Steve) Engstrom; grandchildren Mike (Jenni) Schaack, Dan (April) Schaack, Justin (Kristin ) Schaack, Tim (Maddie Ritt) Murtaugh, Nick Murtaugh, Mandy (Landon) Williams, Tony Haus, Angie (Kris Morken) Haus, Jeff (Victoria) Engstrom, Taylor (Jordan) Wiesenburger; great-grandchildren Lilly, Sam, Tyler, Ethan, Jayden, Lena, Lachlan, Russell; other relatives and cherished friends.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lee; infant daughter; siblings, Theresa Gerlach and George King.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 23955 Nicolai Avenue East, Miesville, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 AM on Wednesday, August 26th at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Luncheon to follow at the church hall.

A special thank you to the staff and residents of Hastings Senior Health and Living who were a loving and welcoming community to her.
