Howard W. Atchison

Howard W. Atchison, age 84, of Hastings, died July 8, 2009 at United Hospital in St. Paul. Howard was born in Prescott, WI on June 28, 1925 to William and Velma (Brezie) Atchison. Howard was united in marriage to Ruth Johnson on May 18, 1946 at Riverview Apostolic Mission in West St. Paul. He worked in floor covering as a linoleum layer. Howard served on the Lake Rebecca Restoration Project, and was a member of the American Legion. He also loved fishing and building wooden boats. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Gloria Benassi; and several brothers and sisters. Howard is survived by his wife Ruth; children, Barbara (Frank) McCoy, Carol Johnson, Jim Atchison, and Bob (Agnes) Atchison; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; brothers, Alfred and Charles; and sister Bernice Turner. The Funeral Service, officiated by Pastor Steve Schoenwald, will be held at 10 am Monday, July 13, 2009 at Caturia Smidt Funeral Home, 201 East Seventh St., Hastings, followed by interment at Lakeside Cemetery. The visitation will be from 4-6 pm Sunday, July 12, 2009 at the funeral home. Pallbearers include: Sean Kelley, Josh Oren, David Oren, and MichaelLong.
