Howard L. Christie, age 82, of Hastings, passed away at Regina Nursing Home in Hastings on September 26, 2014. He was born in Emerald, WI on June 15, 1932 to Henry and Helga (Moe) Christie. In his youth, Howard and his sister performed concerts around Emerald. Later, he moved to Kenyon. He was drafted into the Army where he honorably served in Japan. He moved to Red Wing where he worked at Durkee Atwood, later retiring from S.B Foot Tanning Company. In 1967, he met Marion Jensen and was married by Rev. V.A. Jensen, Marion’s father at Gol Lutheran church in Kenyon, MN on December 9, 1967 where they resided in Red Wing, and later Bellechester, MN. Howard enjoyed traveling, playing instruments, Polka music, fishing, gardening and spending time with family. He left many blessed by his kindness and his lighthearted spirit. Howard is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Donna Fremouw. He is survived by loving wife, Marion; daughter, Angela (Shaun) Christie-Smith of Dallas, TX and his son, Chad Christie of Hastings; grandchildren, Skyler; Tate; Alexander; Adam; and Alayna; brother in law; many cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends. A Memorial Service, officiated by Pastor Jerry Branthum, will be held on Friday, Oct. 3 at 12:30 p.m. at Southside Baptist Church, 5613 South Robert Trail, Inver Grove Heights. A gathering will take place one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be held prior to the memorial service at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Friday (10/3) at 10:15 a.m. at Assembly Area # 4.
