Helen Theresa Mcgrath

A Celebration of Life is being held for Helen T. McGrath, age 96, of Hastings, who died peacefully surrounded by her family on November 1, 2018 at Regina Care Center. Helen was born April 15th, 1922 in Theilman, MN and married Dennis McGrath Nov 23, 1944. Together they had 13 children. She was well known at Wiederholt’s Supper Club as the head cook for 37 years. She loved to read, travel, bake and play 10,000. She will always be remembered for her contagious laughter and loving care of her large family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Julius & Loretta (Harlan) Gessner; husband, Dennis; her brothers and sisters; a grandchild, Kody McGrath; and a son-in-law, Steve Swanson. Helen is survived by her children, Michael (Kay) McGrath, Janet Swanson, Joseph (Brenda) McGrath, Ann McGrath, and William (Diane) McGrath all of Hastings, James (Daria) of Rapid City, SD, Julie (Bob) Wellman of Spokane, WA, Mary Pat (Dan) Dobrick of Minneapolis, MN, Geraldine (Eddie) Nutzman of Sandstone, MN, Genevieve of Boise, ID, Linda (Steve) Carlson of Amery, WI, John (Karin) of Chugiak, AK, and Daniel (Anne) of Redwing, MN; 36 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Helen donated her body to Mayo Clinic Research. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, April 13 at 12 noon at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel, 3075 Vermillion St. in Hastings. A lunch will be served at 1:00 PM, with a Celebration of Life beginning at 2:00 PM. Private Interment will be held at SEAS Cemetery at a later date.
