Helen T. Meier

Helen T. Meier, age 96 of Hastings, passed away peacefully at Hastings Health and Senior Living on Friday morning, May 15, 2026.

Helen Twilla, the daughter of Richard and Doris (Taplin) Juenke, was born on November 3, 1929, in Farmington. Following her graduation, Helen was united in marriage to DeForest Meier on July 1, 1950 and he later preceded her in death on October 26, 2000. Helen was a longtime cook in the school district, and a dedicated member of Resurrection United Methodist Church in Hastings where she participated in bible study, women's society, and was always willing to volunteer in any way that she could. She enjoyed gardening, tending to her raspberry patches, sewing, cross-stitching, and trying new recepies. Helen loved Hallmark cards, and would send them to countless people as they celebrated birthdays, holidays, and other life accomplishments. She was a family oriented person and cherished the times spent gathered together.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, DeForest; siblings, Jeanne and George "Dick"; son-in-law, James Steward; and by her granddaughter, Misty Steward.

Helen is survived by her children, Charlie (Helen) Meier and Sharon Steward; two grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; siblings, Doreen "Pucky" Larsen, Ruth "Torchy" Gustafson, and Elwyn Juenke; and by many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Resurrection United Methodist Church in Hastings, with Pastor Mark Miller officiating. Interment will be held at Lakeside Cemetery in Hastings.

Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation for one hour prior to the services, and to a reception following the burial, all at church on Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, Helen requested memorials be made to Hastings Family Service, Resurrection United Methodist Church, or to the Animal Ark in her memory.
