Helen M. Bastien, age 95 of Hastings, died peacefully on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Regina Medical Center, Hastings. Helen Marie, the daughter of Fred and Emma (Veilleux) McCoy, was born on March 21, 1921 in Salix, Iowa. On May 12, 1941, Helen was united in marriage to Stanley P. Bastien; he later preceded her in death on September 26, 1981. Helen was a dedicated homemaker and enjoyed quilting, volunteering with Darts, and being an active parishioner as well as a 4H leader. She also was an avid gardener, and enjoyed playing bingo and cards with her various card groups. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stanley; her brothers, Francis, Jack and Charles; and by her sisters, Pauline, Bette and Rosemary. Helen is survived by her children, Theresa Dressler of Hastings, Jean (Jon) Poehler of Detroit Lakes, Doris Bastien of Ft. Worth, TX, Susan (Ben) Frishberg of San Diego, CA, Ruth (Ken) Kummer of Haslet, TX, Rita Crosby of Hastings, Karen Bastien of Columbia Heights, Fred (Judy) Bastien of Lafayette, LA, Paul (Sue) Bastien of Hastings and Leo (Darlene) Bastien of Ft. Worth, TX; her 18 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; sister in law, Betty McCoy and by many other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 West Fifteenth St., Hastings, with Father David Hennen officiating. Interment will be held at St. John the Baptist Cemetery,Vermillion. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to Mass on Wednesday. Arrangements are being completed by Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services in Hastings.
