Hedwig "Hedy" Kelly, age 87, of Hastings and formerly of Miesville, died peacefully on Sunday, April 12, 2015 at Regina Medical Center following an extended illness. Hedwig M., the daughter of Johann and Theresa (Meier) Hug, was born on July 18, 1927 in Niederwill, Switzerland, not far from St. Gallen in Nord-East Switzerland. She attended twelve years of school, four of which were considered college. She married Edward C. Keller in 1952 in Zurich, Switzerland. Together, they owned and operated a bakery before moving to England where Edward worked as a Steward. In 1959, they moved to America and settled in Minneapolis and worked as a chef and waitress. Hedy met Father Ortner in Minneapolis and eventually became his housekeeper while he was assigned to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Miesville from 1964-1975. She continued to be his housekeeper for many years and later relocated with him to Cannon Falls where he was assigned to St. Pius V Catholic Church. As her health began to fail, Hedy lived at Angels Care Center, Cannon Falls for a year before moving to Regina Medical Center, Hastings in 2014. She had a deep devotion for her Catholic faith and was a devout member of the Lay Carmelties for many years. She enjoyed sharing jokes with many friends and was very grateful for everything that her friends did for her. She is survived by her siblings, Klara Moyard, Ottmar Hug, Alos Hug, and Gottlieb Hug, all of whom live in Switzerland, and by many friends both in Cannon Falls and Hastings. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at Regina Medical Center Chapel, 1175 Nininger Rd., Hastings. Visitation will be held for one-half hour prior to the Mass. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Parish Cemetery, Miesville.
