Gyle Wyman, age 80, recently of Hastings, died peacefully on Sunday, September 6, 2015 at his home. Gyle Robert, the son of Gyle Jesse and Wanda Eleanor (Smith) Wyman, was born on May 11, 1935 in St. Paul. Following his education, Gyle enlisted in the United States Air Force and served a tour of duty in Korea. After his honorable discharge, he returned St. Paul and met Jean Anderson; they were later married on February 7, 1964. Gyle also began his life-long career of being an airline mechanic which eventually led their family to different parts of the United States. He was actively involved in the instrumental flight of the Boeing 747 as well as the first two space shuttles in California. Gyle was a lifetime member of the VFW, where he was involved with the MOC, as well as a longtime member of the American Legion. He and Jean especially enjoyed traveling together. He was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister-in-law, Sandra Stevens. Gyle is survived by his wife, Jean; his children, Robert Gyle (Sue) Aebly, Ramona Gail (Sam) Rippamonti, Rodger Donn Wyman, Leonard Jess (Dustie) Wyman and Wesley Dale Wyman; his grandchildren, Nickolas Rippamonti, Brenden Wyman, Cassandra Hyde and Jessica Aebly; his six great grandchildren; his brother-in-law, L. Wesley Anderson and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, 201 East 7th Street, in Hastings, with Reverend Doug Duin officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment with honors will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
