Gloria M. Norum

Gloria M. Norum, age 87 of St. Paul, died peacefully on Wednesday morning, November 22, 2017, at Woodbury Health Care Center. Gloria M., the daughter of Jesse Smith and Alice Gardner, was born on April 2, 1930, near Gary, Minnesota. On December 13, 1948, Gloria was united in marriage to Arne Norum in St. Paul. She was a longtime homemaker and held various part-time jobs before retiring from St. Paul Public Schools. Gloria loved flowers and gardening, dancing, as well as fishing, playing cards, games, and puzzles. Most of all, Gloria enjoyed spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arne; and by one brother and one sister. Gloria is survived by her children, Valerie Norum of Suffolk, Virginia, Gregory (Mary Jo) Norum of Hastings, Christine Norum (fianc, Robert Covey), of South St. Paul, Bobbi (Virgil) Morton of Amarillo, Texas, Jeffrey (Donna) Norum of Florence, Kentucky, and Scott Norum of Burnsville; her 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; her three sisters and one brother; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services in Hastings, with Chaplain Basil Owen officiating. A reception will follow the service at the funeral home. Visitation will be held 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening, and will continue for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday morning, all at the funeral home. Gloria will be laid to rest next to her husband at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Glorias family wishes to thank Woodbury Health Care Center and Healtheast Hospice for their care. In lieu of flowers, Glorias family requests memorials be directed to HealthEast Hospice in her memory. Arrangements are being completed by Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services of Hastings and will be announced later.
