Gilbert "Gil" W. Winter

Gilbert W. "Gil" Winter, age 59, died peacefully at his daughters home on Sunday afternoon, November 4, 2018, after courageously battling an aggressive form of cancer. Gilbert Wayne, the son of Warren and Rose (Boehm) Winter, was born on June 11, 1959, in Mandan, North Dakota. Gil was a very funny, calm, and mellow guy, and he never had a mean bone in his body. Gil cared for others, and would give the shirt off his back. He enjoyed spending time at the cabin, fishing with friends, spending time with his grandkids, walking his dogs Lexi and Gracie, and spending time with family. He was preceded in death by his family; son, Travis Winter; and by his sister, Lisa Hanson. Gil is survived by his children, Kristel Winter (Bob Peterson), and Jeremy (Kara) Winter; grandchildren, Kayla Winter (Will Lynn), Austin Winter, Dylan Peterson, Jordan Peterson, Brielle Winter, Zander Winter, and Isabella Winter; siblings, Steve (Kim) Winter, Mark (Denise) Winter, and Amy (Jim) Long; brother-in-law, Dale Hanson; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 8, 2018, at Caturia, Smidt Starkson Funeral Home Crematory of Hastings, with Pastor Kevin Humphry officiating. Private family interment will be held at Cottage Grove Cemetery at a later date. Immediately following the service, a reception and time of fellowship will be held at the funeral home. Arrangements are being completed by Caturia, Smidt Starkson Funeral Home Crematory of Hastings.
