Gerry H. Dean

Gerry H. Dean, age 76 of Hastings, passed away on Saturday, December 1, 2018, at Regina Assisted Living in Hastings. Gerry Herman, the son of Herman and Norma (Rodden) Dean, was born on May 26, 1942, in Princeton, Illinois. He was raised on the family farm, where he enjoyed operating and working on the tractors. Following his education at LaMoille High School, Gerry attended St. Paul Bible College, where he met the love of his life, Joanna. They were united in marriage on August 22, 1964. He worked for the Dart Transit Company for 37 years. Music was always a big part of his life. He enjoyed playing the piano, organ, and trumpet. He taught piano lessons and was always playing music at family get togethers. He also loved taking his children to the State Fair, spending time with his grandchildren, and traveling the country in the RV, including the Holy Land experience in Orlando, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Neil; and granddaughter, Allison Beying. Gerry is survived by his wife, Joanna; children, Jeffrey Dean, Janelle Lancette, and Juliann (Dan) Beying; grandchildren, Jared and Sabrina, Chad, Andrea, and Austin; brothers, Dave (Sue) Dean and Curt (Bev) Dean; son-in-law, Mark; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 7, 2018, at Crossroads Church in Hastings, with Pastor Tim Stanley officiating. Private family interment will take place at Lakeside Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church. Arrangements are being completed by Caturia, Smidt Starkson Funeral Home Crematory of Hastings.
