Gerald Leonard Cardwell, age 84, died peacefully on March 14, 2018, in Apache Junction, AZ. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of 64 years; four children, Sharon Wicker of Elk River, Carol (Rick) Ludwig of Cannon Falls, James Cardwell of Hastings, and Michael Cardwell of San Jose, CA; seven grandchildren, Brenda (Brandon) Regenscheid, Michelle (Jamie) Stay, Timothy (Emily) Ludwig, Natalie Wicker, Heather (Mark) Zaharia, Olivia Wicker, and Melissa Wicker; and five great-grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Leota and George Cardwell; brothers, Bill, Mel, and George; sisters, Lois and Phyllis and twin sister, Geraldine. Gerald was born September 22, 1933, in Sioux City, IA. He married Shirley Elaine Luebben in Sioux City, IA, on September 8, 1953. He was a proud veteran of the US Army, serving in Germany during the Korean War. Gerald retired from the St. Paul Pioneer Press after 35 years. He enjoyed his farm in Hampton, MN, traveling, fishing, RVing, woodworking, spending time with his family, and spending time in Arizona. A Funeral Service will be held at Christ United Methodist Church, 29470 Gaylord Ave., Cannon Falls, MN 55009, on Friday, March 23, with visitation from 9:30-11:00am and the service starting at 11:00am. Burial with military honors, will be at Fort Snelling Friday at 2:15pm. Pallbearers will be Ryan Regenscheid, William Regenscheid, Timothy Ludwig, Jamie Stay, Ken Tucker, Mark Lockwood.
