Gerald J. "Jerry" Mastel

Gerald "Jerry" Mastel, age 82 of Hastings, died suddenly at home on Sunday evening, November 1, 2020. Gerald James, the son of Mark and Agnes Mastel, was born March 8, 1938, in St. Paul, Minnesota. Following his graduation from Alexander Ramsey High School in Roseville, Jerry enlisted in the United States Air Force and was later honorably discharged. On September 14, 1957, Jerry was united in marriage to Jeanette Pelzer at St. Agnes Catholic Church. Jerry was a longtime truck driver for various companies, and retired in 1991. He then began working for Sylvester Construction for many years. Jerry was an avid golfer, and loved riding his motorcycle. He also enjoyed watching TV, especially John Wayne any Westerns or War Movies, as well as game shows. He was a dedicated sports fan, and especially enjoyed participating in his children and grandchildren's games. Most of all, Jerry loved spending time with his family and would do anything to help them. He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law; sister-in-law, Barb Mastel; and by his great grandson, Carter Christopher. Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Jeanette Mastel; children, Lisa Levy, Karen (Dan) Borash, Paula (Gene) LaBarre, and Todd (Maria) Mastel; grandchildren, Shaun (Candice) Levy, Jennifer Borash, Danielle Levy, Nicole Borash, Erin Rohr, Katelyn Borash, Jared Borash, Ally Rohr, Ryan Borash, Colin Mastel, Maddisen Mastel, Nick (Loren) LaBarre, and Kyle LaBarre; great grandchildren, Devin Levy, Aliyah Campbell, Cooper Vogel, Aubrey Tandberg, and Jackson LaBarre; siblings, Mark Mastel and Patricia Price; dog Bruno; and by many other family members, friends and neighbors. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 6, 2020, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hastings. Private family interment will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date. Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. Friday morning at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Wounded Warrior Project, Hastings Family Service, or to the donor's choice in memory of Jerry. Arrangements are being completed by Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings.
