Gerald Thomas Hapke

Gerald T. Hapke, age 85, of Lakeville, MN, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully on Friday, June 13, 2025, at United Hospital in St. Paul.

Jerry was born on March 4, 1940, in Bloomington, Illinois, to Elmer and Edith (Jackson) Hapke and was raised in Gibson City, Illinois. One of three children, Jerry grew up enjoying music, playing both the saxophone and trumpet, as well as bowling, golfing, and fishing. His family eventually moved to Richfield, Minnesota, where he graduated from high school. It was there, in an Ancient History class, that he met the love of his life, Bette Page. They married on March 18, 1961, and began a beautiful journey together.

Jerry attended the University of Minnesota and went on to build a life filled with love, learning, and generosity. He and Bette raised two children, Steve and Laura, and made their home in Minneapolis, then Richfield, and finally built a new home together in Lakeville.

A true handyman and a naturally analytical thinker, Jerry loved solving problems and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He loved to read, always had a dog by his side, and deeply cherished time with his family. He and Bette enjoyed traveling to many wonderful places including England, Germany, Scotland, Hawaii, California, Colorado and Canada.

Jerry is survived by his beloved wife, Bette; daughter, Laura (Jeff) Post; grandchildren, Matt (Luisa Rocha) Post and Josh (Quinn) Post; and great grandchild, Aleks Post. He is also survived by his sister, Marilyn Hassis; as well as nieces, nephews, other dear relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Steve Hapke; and his brother, Dick Hapke.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Starkson Family Anderson Chapel, 14850 Garrett Avenue, Apple Valley, MN, on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 1:00 PM. (Visitation will take place at the funeral home two hours prior, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.) A reception will follow the service,

A burial will take place at Acacia Park Cemetery in Mendota Heights at a later date.
