George W. Savage, of Hastings, passed away on March 23, 2014, at the Regina Assisted Living Center at the age of 91 years old. He loved spending his retirement years at the family cabin in Park Rapids, MN, where he enjoyed golfing and fishing. He was the first President of the Hastings Hockey Boosters.George Savage was born on March 10, 1923, in St. Cloud, MN to George and Vivian (Thoms) Savage. He graduated from St. Cloud Technical High School. George joined the Merchant Marines where he graduated from Officers Training School and became a Chief Officer. He was united in marriage to Rosalie Walbridge at the Catholic Church in Foreston, MN on August 24, 1950. They started a family in Milaca, MN where they managed a gas station and restaurant called the Red Rooster. He moved to Hastings, MN to work and retire from Great Northern Oil Company (Koch Refinery). George was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalie Savage; his brothers, Robert; Bruce; and Richard Savage; and his sisters, Mary Otto and Jean Savage. He is survived by sons, Greg (Lynn) Savage; Tom (JoAnn) Savage; Ron (Paula) Savage; Mike (Deb) Savage; and Dan (Jane) Savage; daughter, Debra Jean; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 29 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 W. 15th Street, Hastings. A visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the mass at church. Casket bearers are Brooks Savage, Brian Savage, Brad Savage, Bob Savage, Scott Savage, Michael Savage, Jack Savage, and Charlie Savage. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers. The Wise Family Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
