Gene Burt

Eugene “Gene” R. Burt, age 67, of Hastings, MN, died unexpectedly of a heart attack on November 18, 2016 at United Hospital in St. Paul, MN. He was born June 30, 1949 in Winona, MN. Gene proudly served his country doing two tours of duty in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Upon return of service, he married Marcia Hoff, November 27, 1971 in Winona, MN. Shortly after, they moved to Hastings, MN where he spent many years working as a Laboratory Technician for the Metropolitan Waste Control Commission in St. Paul, MN. Gene was also a member of Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Gene loved his wife and son very much, even though he was unable to spend time with his family and friends due to his decline in health and his struggle with PTSD. He cared deeply for them all. He was preceded in death by his son, Gene Jr.; mother, Helen Huwald; sister, Karen Kunce; sister in law, Deb Burt; brother in law, Gary Hoff; and mother and father in law, Marjorie and Norman Hoff. Gene is survived by his loving wife, Marcia; brothers, Don Burt, Allen (Karen) Burt, and Darwin (Kate) Burt; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A Memorial Service will take place on Wednesday (11/23) at 3:00 PM at Wise Family Funeral Home, 400 Spring St., Hastings. A gathering will take place two hours prior to the service. Interment, Lakeside Cemetery. Following the Interment there will be a reception held at the American Legion from 4:00 – 6:00 PM. Memorials preferred.
